Child Safety And Online Dangers

What can we say about the world children live in these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world lowering its standards, values, and morals each day, surrounds our children.

What makes it even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to stop our children from accessing websites of an adult nature. These days children are knowledgeable about technology and often more so than their parents. How can we keep our children safe from online dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while still battling the corruption going on around the world?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can protect our kids by monitoring their activities on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you have, however, I will speak only of the Internet providers I know about, since all programs are different. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will need to go to Safety at the Toolbar and click on Parental Controls.

Once you arrive there, you will see a drop-down list of available usernames. Search for your child’s username and click on the username. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is guarded against websites that hold potential dangers.

Chat rooms can be very serious dangers to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, in order to draw children into their dangerous network. In the AOL browser, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

In the same way, click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and complete the same steps as you did to instigate the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is a good idea to set up passwords. Having passwords will offer additional protection to your child. However, do not give the child the passwords, because this will give the child control over the Internet connection, and the child might even reset the controls.

It is also wise to use your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could carry something that will corrupt your system or popup adult content, which your child will see if online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to start these popup controls.

If you use Internet Explorer; open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, then click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the information carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is standard and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium you could find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers presented to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. So, your child is in danger, and if you want to master safety, you will have to monitor, and take steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent studies, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Additional studies show that pornographic websites out-rate CBS, ABC, and NBC, thus making more profit than each of these television channels in a year. The studies claim that the largest group that views porn sites are children. These children are between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The statistics showed that around 74% of all the porn sites had uncontrolled banners, while another 66% of the websites did not issue ‘adult content’ warnings. Moreover, another 11% of the sites did not have ‘sexually explicit content’ warnings and 25% boxed in their visitors by not letting them leave their websites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult websites requested adult permission for minors to visit. So, protect your child now!

Archery As A Pastime And A Sport

We are all being encouraged to get out more frequently, so many people are looking for a reason for doing it. You could choose a spectator sport like football, but that is not really going to do your body much good, you should be looking for a participation sport.

If you are younger, then play soccer by all means, but if you are getting on a bit, you will most likely be looking for a sport that is not quite so strenuous. Men like to aim and shoot things even if not kill them. Golf is an option, but I want to recommend that you give archery a try.

Archery has the advantage over shooting a gun because it requires some physical fitness. It is not just a question of pulling, sorry, squeezing a trigger. If you take up archery, you will most likely want to acquire some more upper-body strength, especially if the most strenuous work you have done for the last twenty years is pick up a pen.

Archery is an all-round sport in many ways, depending on how much you get into it. Most beginners will start out by going to an archery club and joining in for the day. People will lend them a bow and show them the safety aspects and the proper way to hold a bow and shoot an arrow. This should give you a good idea of which sort of bow you would like.

After a week or two, you might purchase your own bow and you might move from indoor target archery to outdoor target archery or even field archery, which is virtual hunting. From there, you will almost certainly meet people who take archery a stage further. You will meet competition archers, bow hunters and people who assemble their own equipment.

You might find one of these aspects of archery enthralling. You may take up bow hunting or even bow fishing. This will take you off at a tangent, because you will have to learn about the animals that you stalk. You will have to learn where they live and what their lifestyles are. This involves research.

Or you can take up the archery equivalent of clay pigeon shooting, which is called field archery. In field archery, the archers walk around a course and replica animals or standard targets will become visible at diverse distances. This is enjoyable.

You will also meet individuals who like to make their own arrows and even their own bows. This is another interesting aspect of archery. You can buy the different components that go to make up an arrow and you can buy a kit to make a bow or you can start from scratch with an axe, a knife and a lathe. Again you will have to do a lot of research, in order to get your archery equipment just the way you want it.

This will take you down yet another tangent to archery, but it will improve your understanding of archery, augment your pleasure in the sport and, as they say, add another string to your bow.

Hybrid Car Myths

If you are thinking about a hybrid vehicle, you may be hearing quite a bit of “talk”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing on the market. Some people say it’ll just pass. Yet other people again say they think they can save a packet, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What’s the truth, and how do you separate fact from fiction with all of the stuff that is being said to you? Below, you can read and consider the common hybrid car myths.

Hybrid cars are the same as electric cars: This is not true since hybrid cars are fuel-powered for the most part. However they have what are called ‘battery assists’. The assist is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that is rechargeable.

You are guaranteed to save money with a hybrid car: If you are doing town driving, you may save gas and you may not. The same goes for highway driving. There are just many different factors. It has been said that if everyone bought hybrid cars, the fuel consumption would drop by only 10%. That’s not a very big difference.

A hybrid car’s battery can run flat: A hybrid car’s battery should not run out while you are actually driving it. The engine in a hybrid car does not idle when stopped (at a red traffic light for instance). What does it do then? Well, it recharges its battery. So, there’s no need to worry about a hybrid car stopping on that score.

A hybrid vehicle’s rechargeable battery only lasts for two years: A hybrid car definitely would not be worth buying if this was the case. A hybrid car’s rechargeable batteries usually come with an eight-year guaranty.

If I run out of fuel, I can continue driving on the hybrid vehicle battery: Bear in mind, a hybrid car’s battery is an assist. That means that hybrid car’s still run on fuel. After you run out of gas, the battery could keep the car running for a short while. However, the vehicle will cease running very soon.

Hybrid vehicles will soon put normal car sellers out of business: I’m sure that this won’t happen anytime soon. The reason for the delay has to do with the how much hybrids cost. Most people just can’t afford one. Furthermore, people just aren’t sure whether they will actually save money on a hybrid car. Therefore, they are slow to join the rush of people who want to buy a hybrid vehicle.

Hybrid cars will only save you about 88USD a year: I did hear something on the news the other day, but it may be untrue. If there’s something you really want and there’s a lot of rumour surrounding it, you simply have got to do some research yourself. There are many different types of hybrid car, and many different manufacturers make them. This means that there may be much more involved than we have time to discuss here. A hybrid car may be of use to you, and it may not, but at the end of the day, is up to you.

Therefore, please don’t worry a great deal about what people say. They probably have only listened to others passing on rumours Do your own research and think it out for yourself. Try the Internet to get your information. The manufacturer’s literature is also rather useful, if you stick to reading the facts and gloss over the gloss. Check that what the literature claims is also in the warranty.

Music For Christmas

Christmas is a very extraordinary time of year for Christians and particularly for Christians living in Christian countries. A large part of the atmosphere at Christmas is created by Christmas music. Christmas music has traditionally consisted mainly of carols and hymns, but some pop songs have become firm favourites in the repertoire of music for Christmas.

This special blend of traditional Christmas carols and pop music made especially for Christmas makes the month of December immediately identifiable.

Obviously, the kind of Christmas music that you will hear the most often depends on where you go and what stations you listen to. If you listen to stations that specialize in well-liked music for the young, you will hear very little Christmas music.

If your taste is for so-called ‘easy listening’, you will get to hear ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby a number of times a day, because it is said to be the most well-liked Christmas music of all time. You will also hear many songs by Cliff Richard, who has been bringing out Christmas ‘specials’ for decades.

Christmas specials are records brought out with a Christmas message of peace and goodwill. Artists who release these specials are attempting to be the number one best selling artist over the profitable Christmas period.

The number one record over the Christmas period will be played millions of times over the airwaves and in clubs making bags of money for the singer and the song writer in royalties.

Classical radio stations will play traditional Christmas music such as Handel’s ‘Messiah’ and choral renditions of well-liked carols and nativity songs like ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’. This kind of song is also sung in schools, churches and Christmas parties all over the country – every western Christian country.

Well-liked time-honoured children’s’ Christmas songs are ones like ‘Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’, ‘On the First Day of Christmas’ and ‘Good King Wenseslas’. Then there are songs from the Fifties and Sixties which were sung in renowned Christmas films. Songs like ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire’ and ‘I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus’.

There is, in fact, a huge selection of Christmas music available, but many songs are repeated over and over again ad nauseam. On the one hand, most people find it really lovely to hear a few Christmas songs every day, but on the other hand, most people are happy when the Christmas music ceases on Boxing Day.

This is because the current trend has been to begin playing Christmas music on December the first or even late November. A month of this music repeated continuously becomes mind-numbing. Everybody loves the Christmas holiday season and the parties, celebrations and joviality that goes with the season, but the Christmas music goes on for too long for most people.

Everybody ought to have a range of Christmas music to play over the festive season, but remember, when you have friends visiting, not to over play these records as everybody will have heard them dozens of times already that week.

Speed Reading

No one really knows when speed reading was first used, but it may possibly have been a long while ago. For hundreds of years, reading was the privilege of a minority of the most highly-educated individuals in the world, the overwhelming majority of whom were monks and priests. This small, select group of men protected their privilege and were loathe to train the general public to read. Furthermore, all through those hundreds of years there were relatively few books to read compared with today. Books were also very costly as they all had to be copied out by hand. Conceivably the only fact that has not altered is that the Bible was the most common book in existence and even now the Bible is the most prevalent book.

The world is quickly evolving into a place where people are slowly but surely giving up on books and becoming fixed in front of monitors or television screens. In such a world, parents must not fail to notice the importance of developing a passion for reading in themselves and their children. Reading is a habit that should be established when the child is relatively young, so what can you do to foster this habit?

Well, there are several strategies you can employ, although one of the best to lead by example. Read with your child every day, even if its only for 10-15 minutes. Allow your child to see you reading. By this I mean, don’t only read in bed before you go to sleep, but instead of watching television from time to time and read your children a bed-time story. Encourage them to read too. You could also:

Register your child for reading lessons, if you honestly don’t have much time or your child is a little slow at reading. There are many well-structured after school reading classes that aspire to make books more appealing to children. They help children with pronunciation, idioms and phrases. These lessons can be pleasurable with animated characters and pictures, especially for young children,. They frequently use Illustrated books, nursery rhymes, comical songs and short stories to enliven the imagination of younger children.

You will have to learn how to kindle your child’s interest. If your child has a favorite character, pick a series of books that include this character. Attempt to encourage your children to read real books not comics. The style in comics typically leaves a great deal to be desired with its slapdash English and street slang. As an alternative, go for series of books like Harry Potter or Tarzan.

You should build yourself a library of your own books. This may sound a little impressive, but after all, a library is only a collection of books. Begin with a good-looking bookshelf that you can easily build on. A talent like reading cannot be learned in only one place, so you cannot afford to leave all the hard work to the day-school or even the after school curricula. You have to collect books that you imagine your child will enjoy too. Use the Internet as a source for learning about the contemporary reading games that will attract little children to the superior and ancient art of reading,

When you child is interested in reading for its own sake, you might read up on speed reading. Speed reading is best suited for informative learning and background reading. It’s immensely suited to cramming or studying for examinations. It is ideal for school and university. However, the first job, before you can think about speed reading, is to get your child reading in the first place.

Are you interested in speed reading for yourself or a loved one? If so, please go along to our website focusing on Speed Reading.

How To Read A Forex Chart

Gambling on Forex is all about forecasting and the only tools you have to help you predict are news and charts, both being ways of representing historical data. Therefore, if you want to make money out of currency dealing, it follows that you will have to be able to understand these data properly. The news can be manipulated by corrupt governments and corrupt officials, but historical charts can not. Therefore, the first undertaking of any would-be currency trader is to come to learn how to interpret a Forex chart.

The basic Forex chart is a graphical representation of how one currency has fared against another. Therefore, you see USD/GBP and USD/EUR charts, showing the historical movements of the US dollar against the British pound and the Euro respectively.

When you open a Forex account with a broker, charting software should be included in the package, if it is not look elsewhere quickly. The charting software will allow you to plot your two target currencies against each other.

A standard Forex chart or graph will have two axes. The bottom axis or line is a time line and can read in any units: years, months, days, hours or even minutes. The side axis will read in units of currency: usually tenths of a cent or penny or possibly whole cents. Whatever the units are, they will be clearly stated on the chart.

You can alter the time frame at the click of a button so that you can first look at the long term trend, then the medium term trend and finally the short term trend, which could be as short the last hour or minute by minute. It is especially interesting to watch a currency pair when important news breaks, like, for example, the GBP/EUR when the UK election results are announced.

It could go either way, but if there is a strong vote for one party or another, it means stability, whereas a hung parliament means instability. Stability will probably mean a stronger GBP, but would the international financial community prefer a Labour or a Conservative government?

There are thousands of possible currency pairs, but most Forex brokers will only deal in a few dozen. However, it is very hard to remember all that data, so charting is useful to remind the currency trader of recent and not-so-recent trends.

Some people say that charting is almost a waste of time, because no chart would have predicted 9/11 and that is true, but the fact is in truth, that if you want to gamble real money on the Forex market, you will have to learn how to read a Forex chart.

Symptoms Of Stress

We are all under stress most of the time and a lot of individuals like to think that they understand stress and can use it to get a piece of work done to the best of their capacity, but do you actually know what the indications of stress are and what it can do to your body? When we are piling the stress onto ourselves, we merely assume that our bodies will adapt and get on with it, but is that actually true?

The fact is that we all have our own level at which stress is reasonable. This is because stress can be emotional, physical and mental and if you go beyond your capacity for any length of time in any of these fields, you can cause temporary or even longer term harm, which could require professional medical help.

If you do not take measures to recover your equilibrium, you will soon find that the apposite role in your life will deteriorate: that is, your relationships will fail, your physical health will crumble or your ability to do your job in the right manner will vanish.

The physical indications of stress are aches and pains, including headaches, general tiredness and lethargy. Unchecked, these indications can lead to migraine, muscle tension and stiffness.

These prime alterations to how your body operates can then result in other issues such as diarrhea or constipation, nausea and dizziness. These symptoms of stress, in turn, can lead to sleepless nights or insomnia.

Once it gets this bad, people normally turn to medication, but medication can only give temporary relief such as sleeping tablets. This can lead to dependence.

If the sufferer already has a weak heart, this blend of symptoms of stress can lead to chest pains, palpitations and erratic heart beat, which in turn can be precursors of heart disease. Please note that this chain of events is not guaranteed.

Individuals are different and some doctors are better than others, but stress and heart disease have been shown to be linked.

Symptoms of stress can also show themselves in behavioural problems. These indications of stress frequently begin with insomnia or merely difficulty getting to sleep and waking up unrefreshed. However, feeling constantly dog-tired has a knock-on effect on our emotions – we tend to become more emotional, but often in a negative way. Often this means over-reacting, like snapping at someone who has asked a perfectly sensible question.

This sort of response can lead to the sufferer avoiding society. Self-pity, isolation, loss of job and depression can soon follow.

So, you have to learn how to get off that slippery slope, the downward coil of everyday stress. The place to begin is the mind. You have to learn how to recognize when ‘things are getting on top of you’ and learn how to unwind.

There are a number of successful techniques including meditation, breathing exercises, aromatherapy and playing soothing music in order to bring about a condition of relaxation in your mind.

When you are learning to take the indications of stress head-on with your mind, take some time to pamper your body too. There are also numerous ways of doing this, but popular methods are taking a sauna or having a massage or pedicure, facial or manicure. Having your hair done.

Physical exercise is a great reliever of stress as well and it does not have to be arduous. A thirty minute walk, two times a day is sufficient for most people, but you might grow to like it and then it is the more the better.

Finally, you could take a good look at your diet. You do not have to go overboard, but do you drink too much coke, coffee or tea? Do you consume a great deal of junk food? Are you getting enough fruit?

The Pleasure Of Giving Toys At Christmas

Everybody likes to get presents, but adults also get pleasure from giving and seeing the delight on the faces of their children while they open them. Gifts are given by nations all around the world, naturally. Nearly everybody in every country gives a birthday present and many countries give a New Year’s present, but the biggest present-giving culture is Christian and Christmas is their biggest gift-giving occasion of the year.

It is such a robust instinct for Christians to give gifts at Christmas, that numerous adults will forego presents for themselves only to buy their children what they would like within the bounds of their finances. Actually, lots go even further than that and put themselves under financial stress for several months just so that their children will get pleasure from Christmas.

In fact, Christmas has got wildly out of hand The concept of giving a present at Christmas was to imitate the giving of presents by the Three Wise Men to Jesus shortly after his birth. It is true that the presents of gold, frankincense and myrrh were very expensive, but the givers of the presents were very wealthy men, even so they just gave one present every.

Nowadays parents spend hundreds on dozens of presents per child. There were five children in our family and we used to be given a sack of toys each and communal toys for all of us to play together like Monopoly. My parents were not well-off and my mother did not have time to get a job outside the home, so my father must have worked like a dog to pay for it all.

I did not realize that then, but I have since seen my brothers struggling to pay to do the same for their children. Still, the joy of seeing your children’s joyful smiling faces as they open their presents at Christmas appears to be worth it for most parents.

Some of the most well-liked toys with children may be dolls prams or train sets or bicycles all of which fall into the bracket of ‘expensive’, whereas popular suggestions for good toys for children are more like to be educational, such as Scrabble, Lego and books which are a great deal less costly.

Kids’ ideas for toys for themselves tend to feed the imagination, whereas parents’ thoughts about toys for kids tend to feed the brain. Kids want to feed the right hand side of their brain whereas their parents instinctively want to feed the left hand side.

As children grow up into teenagers, music and computers play major roles in most of their lives, again reflecting the left and right sides of the brain. now the roles are more evenly balanced. This is a topsy-turvy time for young adults. All sorts of things are happening within and without them. Will the balance stay even or will it tip one way or the other? Only time will tell.

Food: Five Tips On Cooking

There can not be many individuals who do not enjoy their food, but the human race, being what it is, I expect that there are a a small number of them. However, for the remainder of us, food is a source of daily delight and, like drink, it is frequently employed to commemorate a happy event. not only that, but various foodstuffs are used for the various meals or distinct events.

Festive meals were indubitably considered around the seasonal foodstuffs on hand, but some foods were transported huge distances for the benefit of those who could pay for them. For instance, my father thought it a grand treat to be given an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years in the past. How the times have altered! Very few kids would judge an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year these days.

Nevertheless, the storage of foodstuff is still a daily affair and therefore, I have written a few good tips on storing foodstuff below, so that you will obtain the best from that which you have purchased or grown in your garden even a long time afterward.

The Quickest Quiche: a quiche is the conventional healthy fast food and this is one of the best quick ways to make one. Put one onion, four eggs four ounces/125 grammes of butter, half a pint/250 ml milk, baking powder, 2 ounces/60 grammes of grated Cheddar cheese, parsley, salt and pepper and anything else you like into a strong food mixer/blender. Whirl it all up together and pour it into an appropriate dish, lined if you have it with some pre-made, shop bought, pastry. Bake at 190C/375F/Gas Mark 6 for 40 minutes. It serves four and is delicious.

Heavenly Hamburgers: next time you make hamburgers, do not salt the meat before cooking them. Use your traditional recipe and make the patties as usual. Then, put a handful of sea salt in your favourite heavy duty frying pan and heat it up to very hot. Drop the hamburgers onto the salt and cook as usual. The outside of the hamburger will go crisp and the grease will be kept to the absolute minimum.

Salmon In The Papers: a fantastic way to cook a whole salmon is to cook it in newspaper. You ought to try it. Prepare your salmon according to your favourite recipe. Then wrap in three or four thoroughly drenched sheets of newspaper (any one). Make a nice parcel out of it; as neat as you can. Place the soaking-wet parcel on a baking tray in the centre of a moderate oven. Bake until the paper is dry on the top and then turn it over. When that side is dry the salmon is done. It’ll take about an hour. If you want to eat it hot, peal the paper off straight away and dish up. If you want to eat it cold, leave the package until it is cold and then unwrap. Either way the skin will stick to the newspaper.

Off The Wall: if you are uncertain when spaghetti is fit to be eaten, through a strand at a tiled wall. If it sticks, it is done.

Cheap And Cheerful: for a quick, healthy, extraordinary summer sandwich filling, pick some fresh, young dandelion leaves; wash them thoroughly; dress if you wish and put between slices off a good loaf of bread.

Swimming Laps At Home In The Pool

It is a close call whether the world’s favourite way of keeping fit is hiking or swimming, but simply because not everyone has access to enough safe water to swim in. I think that walking is fine, but we do it each day, it is too normal; swimming, on the other hand, launches you into a totally different world where you require a different set of skills to stay alive.

Walking is very efficient for massaging the internal organs and exercising the legs, lungs and heart, but swimming exercises each limb and muscle and massages the internal organs too. In short, swimming is almost certainly a better exercise than hiking, but hey, you can do both, eh?

Most people merely have the local swimming pool to go to, and unfortunately they can be a real pain to use now that people are not as considerate of others as they used to be. It is not so bad if you can go while the children are in school or if the pool keeps a couple of of lanes free for dedicated swimmers, but otherwise, swimming at the local pool is a chore.

Of course we cannot all have our own pool in the yard, we do not even all have a yard and we can not all live near the sea. The next best thing is to become a member of a private spa or swimming club. However, if you have a small patch of ground, you might be able to squeeze in a lap pool. A lap pool is long and thin, somewhere you could get one or two lanes in, which is plenty of room for swimming up and down.

A lap pool such as this would not be very expensive because it does not have to be deep for diving and you will not require a diving board or slide. Merely a ladder or steps at one end. Four feet of water would be enough for swimming as well.

Therefore, the lap pool need not be deeper than four feet or wider than six feet, but it must be as long as you have room for. Having a lap pool like this does not mean that you cannot just float or stand in it while the weather is hot. If you do not have room for this but would still like something, you could look into procuring a swim spa.

It sounds fantastic and terribly expensive, doesn’t it? Well, they are excellent, but they are cheaper than purchasing and maintaining a garden pool. A swim spa is the equivalent of of a treadmill. A motor pushes water at you and you swim into it, so that you are held in one place by the current and your own efforts. You get a free water massage thrown in free too!

It is costly to be able to take advantage of water sports at home, but the consolation is that you will not have to pay to get into the local pool, you will not have noisy kids getting in your way and you will be fitter.
